Sharon Sparrow is the Acting Principal Flutist of the Detroit Symphony, tenured as Assistant Principal Flute. She is an active orchestral, solo and chamber musician. In addition to her positions in Detroit, Sharon has also performed as guest flutist with Chicago, Pittsburgh and Baltimore Symphonies as well as the Seattle Opera Orchestra and Hong Kong Philharmonic.
In 2016, Theodore Presser published her book "6 Weeks to Finals", which was awarded the National Flute Association's Top New Publication award of 2016. She coaches orchestral audition candidates from all over the country using the "6 Week" system.
Ms. Sparrow is currently on the faculty at Oakland University and Wayne State University and is a graduate of both the Juilliard School and the Mannes College of Music.

Melissa-Kay Grey, MM
Melissa maintains a career as an active performer and educator, having performed and presented masterclasses throughout the country including Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Michigan. In 2013, she co-founded and is the current director of the Interactive Flute Retreat, Michigan Flute Camp (2018), as well as directed the Carolina Flute Camp through 2015. She is a member of the National Flute Association, South East Michigan Flute Association and Mu Phi Epsilon.
Melissa Grey, MM currently teaches in her Ann Arbor private studio, located in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
The Interactive Flute Session started Fall 2013 in Saline, MI. Participants were able to spend an afternoon with Sharon Sparrow, Assistant Principal Flutist of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, listening, learning, performing, and laughing. Each time, participants of the flute session walked away rejuvenated having had an immensely enjoyable experience. This summer interactive session offers the added benefit of enjoying four days in a picturesque setting on the shores of Lake Michigan in beautiful South Haven MI with Sharon Sparrow.
Sue Whitener, BM -Has been an active soloist, orchestral musician and flute teacher for the past 30 years. She was Principle Flutist with the Jackson Symphony Orchestra for one year prior to joining the Plymouth Symphony Orchestra over 13 years ago. Ms. Whiter has also performed with Orchestra Canton. She has been Treasurer for the Ann Arbor Alumni Chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon, an international professional music fraternity, from 1994 to the present.
